Kent Moore, vice-principal, research at the 含羞草传媒 Mississauga and Distinguished Professor of Theoretical Geophysics of Climate Change in the department of chemical and physical sciences, has been awarded a by Environment and Climate Change Canada.

The prestigious award was created in 1946 in honour of meteorologist and U of T alum Dr. John Patterson and recognizes outstanding contributions to meteorology in Canada.

Moore is renowned for his climate research in the Arctic and mountainous regions. He has published more than 200 peer-reviewed manuscripts, received over 65 national and international grants and awards and given numerous media interviews on his research and issues related to climate change.

鈥淚鈥檓 incredibly honoured,鈥 said Moore, who is praised by peers for his collaborative nature, empathetic leadership and creative approach to research. 鈥淭o join the ranks of Canada鈥檚 leaders in meteorology who have received this award before me 鈥 it means a great deal.鈥

鈥淚t鈥檚 also a testament to the contributions of the many students, fellows, and colleagues I鈥檝e worked with over the years. It鈥檚 been a privilege to collaborate with such generous and committed scientists.鈥

鈥淧rofessor Moore鈥檚 research program has transformed our understanding of the impacts of climate change in polar and mountainous regions,鈥 said W. Richard Peltier, a in the department of physics at the Faculty of Arts & Science who nominated Moore for the award. 鈥淗is highly interdisciplinary and internationally recognized body of knowledge has fostered excellence in climate science, contributing to Canada鈥檚 global leadership in the field.鈥
