Professor Franco Vaccarino re-appointed as vice-president and principal of UTSC

Professor Franco J. Vaccarino has been reappointed as vice-president, 含羞草传媒 and principal, 含羞草传媒 Scarborough for a second term. The new five-year term begins July 1, 2012 and expires June 30, 2017.

含羞草传媒 President David Naylor praised the re-appointment, noting that Vaccarino has been a passionate and tireless champion for the 含羞草传媒 Scarborough since taking on the role of vice-president and principal in 2007.

鈥淪ince Prof. Vaccarino took the reins at UTSC, the campus has grown in size and stature, developing centres of excellence that draw outstanding faculty and students to specialized areas of study,鈥 said Prof. Naylor. 鈥淚鈥檓 confident that under his continued leadership, UTSC will continue to excel and provide unparalleled academic and social opportunities for students.鈥 

Since becoming principal of UTSC, Vaccarino has led a constructive, broad-based and strategic planning process that set an exciting course for UTSC in the months and years to come.

The campus has undergone a period of significant expansion, both in terms of faculty 鈥 with 83 new professors hired in the past four years 鈥 as well as infrastructure, with the completion and opening of the new science building and the Instructional Centre.

In addition, the long awaited remediation of the North Campus is fully underway and the Pan American Aquatics facility is on track for completion in 2014 and ready to welcome athletes for the 2015 Pan American Games.

Prior to taking on the role of vice-president and principal, Vaccarino served as Chair of the Department of Psychology, Faculty of Arts and Science and Graduate Chair of the tri-campus Graduate Department of Psychology.  He began his career at the 含羞草传媒 in 1984 as an Assistant Professor at the 含羞草传媒 at Scarborough.  He holds a BSc from the 含羞草传媒, and an MSc and PhD in Psychology from McGill University.

Vaccarino has brought extensive leadership experience to his role at UTSC. Prior to returning to the University as Chair of Psychology on the St. George Campus, he served as Executive Vice-President, Programs at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) from 2003-05, and as Vice-President of Research from 1998 鈥 2003. From 1996-1998 he served as Vice-President and Director of Research, Clarke Institute of Psychiatry.
